Introduction

Users can attach documents in chat and ask about them: summarise a report, compare two contracts, pull figures from a spreadsheet. Aikeedo extracts the text of each file and gives it to the model. Small files go to the model whole, so it can read, summarise and compare them in full. Larger files are searched in pieces, and the model reads the parts it needs page by page.

Turning it on

  1. Go to Settings → Features → Chat and turn on File analysis in the Capabilities section.
  2. Open each plan that should have it and turn on File analysis. To apply the change to current subscribers, save with Update snapshots. See Plans, Snapshots & Subscriptions.

Supported files

Spreadsheets are read sheet by sheet, and presentations slide by slide.

Settings

All file settings are in the File reading section of Settings → Features → Chat.

Max file size

Max file size (MB) is the largest file users can attach. Larger files are rejected before they are stored. Leave it empty to allow anything up to your server’s limit, set by PHP’s upload_max_filesize and post_max_size.

Read in full up to

Read in full up to (tokens) decides when a file goes to the model whole. The default is 8,000 tokens, about 32,000 characters.
  • Files up to this size are added to the conversation in full, so the model can summarise and compare them.
  • Larger files are searched for the passages that match the question. When the model needs more, it reads the file page by page, which users see as a Read uploaded file step in the conversation.
Set it to 0 to always search files in pieces. A higher limit gives better answers about long files, but every message in the conversation then carries more input.

File reader

The File reader decides who extracts the text: When you choose Jina or Mistral OCR, Use only as fallback appears, and it is on by default:
  • On: files are read on your server first. Only the ones it can’t get text from are sent to the selected reader.
  • Off: every uploaded file goes to the selected reader first, and your server reads it only if that fails.
Files read by Jina or Mistral OCR are sent to that provider. Check its data policy before you turn it on, especially with Use only as fallback off.
The file reader is also used for files added to knowledge bases.

Credits

Remote readers are charged under Settings → Finance → Credit ratios, in the Capabilities section: Files read on your server are not charged. With Use only as fallback on, users pay for a reader only when their file needed it. See Unified Credit System.

Troubleshooting

Check that File analysis is on under Capabilities and in the user’s plan, with an up-to-date snapshot.
Raise Max file size (MB), or PHP’s upload_max_filesize and post_max_size if the setting is empty or higher than them.
The PDF is probably scanned, with images instead of text. Choose Jina or Mistral OCR as the file reader, with Use only as fallback on.
