# Perplexity Search

> Use the Perplexity Search API as the web search provider in chat. Results come with page excerpts, so the model rarely needs to open pages.

## Introduction

The [Perplexity Search API](https://www.perplexity.ai/hub/blog/introducing-the-perplexity-search-api) can be the [web search provider](https://docs.aikeedo.com/advanced/web-search-and-reading.md#web-search) for chat. Unlike other providers, it returns excerpts of the result pages with the results, so when the model needs page details, no extra pages have to be opened.

## Setting up

**1. Get an API key**

Sign in to Perplexity and open [API keys](https://www.perplexity.ai/account/api/keys). Create a key and copy it.

**2. Add it to Aikeedo**

Go to **Settings → Integrations → Perplexity**, paste the key into **API Key**, and click **Save changes**.

**3. Choose it for web search**

In **Settings → Features → Chat**, choose **Perplexity** as the **Search provider**.

## Search mode

Under **Web search**, choose the **Search mode**:

* **Standard** (default) gives better results.
* **Fast** returns results sooner and costs less per search.

Each mode has its own credit rate, under **Perplexity Search** in **Settings → Finance → Credit ratios**.

## Troubleshooting
